Care With Purpose: The Journey to Social Enterprise and Our Vision for 2026
Why We Became a Social Enterprise and What This Means for 2026
In 2025, Sistability reached an important milestone in our journey: we became a certified social enterprise. For us, this was not a marketing label or a strategic pivot. It was the formal recognition of who we have always been at heart. From day one, Sistability has existed to support people who are often overlooked, create meaningful employment for those who need a hand up, and deliver care with dignity, fairness, and respect.
Now, as we move into 2026, becoming a social enterprise is more than a badge we wear. It is a promise to our clients, partners, staff, and the entire Northern Rivers community that we will continue to put people first. It is a commitment to purpose, not just profit, and to quality care, not shortcuts.
Below, we share why we made this decision, the impact it is already having, and what this means for the people we support in the year ahead.
How Sistability Started: A Business Built From Heart
When Sistability first opened its doors, it was not because we identified a gap in the market. It was because we saw people falling through the gaps.
In the Northern Rivers, we saw:
• Single mums struggling to return to work
• Carers burned out by rigid job structures
• Young people unable to find stable employment
• Older Australians and NDIS participants left without reliable, kind-hearted help
• Clients needing care delivered with empathy and patience
• Community members looking for work that felt meaningful and respectful
• People who simply needed someone to believe in them
Sistability grew out of this reality. Employment, dignity, empowerment, and compassion became the backbone of our business. Long before we had a certificate, we were already acting like a social enterprise. We reinvested into training, supported workers facing barriers, and delivered services that genuinely changed lives.
Becoming certified simply formalised what we were already doing.
Why We Chose to Become a Certified Social Enterprise
As Sistability grew, our purpose became clearer. We were not just a service provider. We were an organisation changing lives at home and creating new beginnings for local people.
Becoming a certified social enterprise was the natural next step.
Here is why we made the decision:
To formalise the values we already live by.
We wanted everyone to see the heart behind our work.To expand employment pathways for people who need them most.
This includes parents returning to work, young people, and those needing flexible support. To deepen our commitment to vulnerable clients.
Serving over 100 NDIS participants and countless seniors is not just work. It is purpose. To join a national movement of purpose-driven organisations.
Social enterprises are reshaping how business is done in Australia. We are proud to be part of this.To reinvest into the community.
Every service delivered helps fund more training, better wages, staff wellbeing, job creation, and community support.
The more we grow, the more people we lift up with us.
What Being a Social Enterprise Means for Our Clients
For our aged care and NDIS clients, this certification is more than a title. It is a guarantee of how we operate.
It means:
• You are supported by a team who genuinely cares.
• Your service dollars stay in the Northern Rivers.
• You are helping create meaningful employment for people who need opportunities.
• You receive high-quality, ethical, respectful services every time.
• Dignity and safety remain at the centre of everything we do.
