Supporting Seniors at the Lismore Retirement Living & Senior Lifestyle Expo

On Friday 13th March, the Sistability team attended the Lismore Retirement Living & Senior Lifestyle Expo at the Lismore Workers Club. The event brought together a wide range of organisations and service providers dedicated to helping older Australians live well, stay independent, and access the support they need.

The expo ran from 10am to 1pm and welcomed local seniors, family members, carers and community organisations to connect, ask questions, and explore services designed specifically for people aged 55 and over.

For our team at Sistability, it was a fantastic opportunity to meet members of the community face-to-face and talk about the ways we support people to stay safe, comfortable and independent in their homes.

Connecting with the Community

Events like the Lismore Seniors Expo play an important role in helping older Australians discover the many services and supports available to them. With dozens of exhibitors under one roof, attendees were able to learn about retirement living options, health and mobility services, home care, financial advice, community programs and more.

Throughout the morning, we spoke with many local residents who had questions about:

• Navigating the My Aged Care system
• Understanding the new Support at Home program
• What types of in-home support services are available
• How domestic assistance can help people stay safely in their own homes

For many seniors and families, the aged care system can feel overwhelming at first. Being able to have relaxed, one-on-one conversations at community events like this makes a real difference.

Helping People Stay Independent at Home

At Sistability, we believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, comfortable and dignified in their home.

Many of the conversations we had at the expo centred around everyday challenges people experience as they age. Things like keeping up with cleaning, managing household tasks, or knowing where to start when applying for aged care support.

Our team explained how we assist older Australians across the Northern Rivers through services such as:

• Domestic cleaning and household support
• Assistance navigating My Aged Care and the Support at Home program
• Regular wellbeing check-ins through our trusted domestic care specialists
• Support designed to help people remain independent at home for longer

For many visitors, it was reassuring to know that there are local services available that understand both the practical and emotional sides of ageing.

Why Events Like This Matter

The Lismore Seniors Expo highlights just how strong and supportive our local community is. By bringing together service providers, seniors and families in one place, it creates opportunities for people to learn, ask questions and build connections.

The event itself is free to attend and designed to help seniors gather information and explore options that can enhance their lifestyle, health and independence.

For our team, the most rewarding part of the day was hearing people say things like:

"I didn’t realise there was help available for that."

Sometimes a simple conversation is all it takes to point someone in the right direction.

Thank You Lismore

We would like to thank the organisers of the Lismore Retirement Living and Senior Lifestyle Expo for creating such a welcoming and informative event.

It was wonderful to meet so many local seniors, carers and families, and we are grateful for the opportunity to be part of a community that cares deeply about supporting people as they age.
