The Sistability Story: From Cleaning Services to Supporting Independent Living at Home
Sometimes businesses grow in ways you never planned — but exactly in the ways they were meant to.
That has certainly been the case for Sistability.
Recently I was chatting with a couple of local women over lunch who told me they knew about Sistability, but thought we “just did NDIS cleaning.”
It was a great reminder of how quickly businesses can evolve — and how important it is to keep sharing the story of that growth.
Because while Sistability did begin with cleaning services, what we do today has grown into something much bigger.
Where Sistability Started
Back in 2018, Sistability was founded with a simple goal: provide reliable cleaning services for NDIS participants.
At the time, many people living with disability were struggling to find dependable home cleaning support. We wanted to create a service that was professional, consistent, and genuinely helpful for people trying to maintain their homes.
But something interesting began to happen as our team worked inside people’s homes.
We started to see things others didn’t.
Our staff were often the only people regularly visiting a client’s home, which meant we were seeing the real day-to-day challenges people faced.
We noticed when gardens became unsafe.
We noticed when someone was struggling to keep up with household tasks.
We noticed when families were feeling overwhelmed, trying to navigate support systems.
And we realised that cleaning was only one small piece of a much bigger picture.
Expanding to Meet Real Needs
By 2023, we expanded our services to include gardening and lawn maintenance for NDIS participants, helping clients maintain safe and manageable outdoor spaces around their homes.
This was an important step, because an overgrown garden can quickly become more than just untidy — it can create real safety risks.
But the biggest shift came as we began working more closely with aged care clients and families across the Northern Rivers.
Many people were trying to navigate the My Aged Care system, and they simply didn’t know where to start.
Supporting Older Australians at Home
By 2024, Sistability had expanded into supporting aged care clients, offering services such as:
Professional home cleaning
Gardening and lawn maintenance
In-home and community support
These services were designed to help older Australians continue living safely and independently in their own homes.
Because for many people, staying at home is not just a preference — it’s deeply connected to dignity, comfort, and well-being.
Introducing Care Compass
In 2025, we launched Care Compass, Sistability’s aged care navigation service.
Care Compass was developed to help individuals and families understand the aged care system and access the right support at the right time.
For many families, navigating aged care can feel confusing and overwhelming.
Care Compass helps guide people through that process, assisting with:
Understanding My Aged Care
Preparing for assessments
Identifying appropriate services
Connecting with providers
Planning support that allows people to remain at home
This service has become a key part of how we support our community.
Support at Home Coordination
As aged care services continue to evolve in Australia, Sistability now also provides Support at Home coordination services across the Northern Rivers.
This helps clients ensure their funded supports are working effectively and that their services are coordinated in a way that truly meets their needs.
Supporting More Than 170 People Across the Northern Rivers
Today, Sistability supports more than 170 people across the Northern Rivers region, including:
Older Australians receiving aged care support
NDIS participants
Families supporting loved ones at home
Our services now include:
But the heart of our work remains the same.
It’s Always Been About People
For many of our clients, we’re not just a service provider.
We’re part of the support system that allows them to continue living in the place they love most — their home.
And the truth is, this work has never really been about cleaning.
It has always been about people.
Helping them stay safe.
Helping families feel supported.
Helping homes remain places of dignity and independence.
Sometimes businesses grow in ways you never planned.
But when you listen carefully to the needs of the people you serve, that growth often leads exactly where it should.
