Sistability Earns Social Enterprise Certification: What It Means for Our Community
We’ve got some exciting news to share with you—Sistability has officially been certified as a Social Enterprise!
This milestone is more than just a badge for us. It’s a recognition of the way we’ve always operated: putting people and community first while delivering high-quality domestic care services. As one of only a handful of social enterprises in the Northern Rivers, we’re proud to be showing what’s possible when business success is linked directly to social good.
So, what exactly is a social enterprise?
A social enterprise is a business that balances purpose and profit. Instead of focusing only on growth and bottom-line results, social enterprises reinvest their profits into their mission—whether that’s supporting vulnerable people, creating jobs, or driving environmental change.
For Sistability, that mission is clear:
Provide compassionate, professional domestic care services for aged care and NDIS clients,
Create meaningful, flexible work opportunities for people in our region, and
Make sure every dollar spent with us goes back into strengthening our local community.
When you choose Sistability, you’re not just booking a clean or arranging support—you’re actively helping create employment and ensuring vulnerable community members get the dignity and care they deserve.
Why this matters for the Northern Rivers
Our region is full of heart, but it also faces real challenges. Too many people struggle to find flexible jobs that fit around family life, study, or returning to work. Others, particularly older Australians and those living with disability, struggle to access reliable, consistent care services.
Sistability’s dual-purpose model tackles both.
For clients: We deliver cleaning, gardening, and support services that help people live safely and independently at home.
For staff: We provide flexible employment for people who often find it hard to access traditional work opportunities—like mums re-entering the workforce, carers needing adaptable hours, and young people wanting to build a career in care.
The result? A cycle of giving back that strengthens everyone. Clients receive high-quality, trustworthy services. Staff find fulfilling, supportive jobs. And the community sees the positive ripple effects.
Recognition of our commitment
Our approach has already been noticed. At the 2025 Ballina Business Awards, Sistability proudly took home two major honours:
Employer of Choice (under 20 employees)
Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion
We were also finalists in Excellence in Health, Care & Wellness, and our Services Manager, Nicole McElwee, was a finalist for Outstanding Employee of the Year.
These awards mean a lot because they reflect the values we live by every day. Creating an inclusive, supportive workplace isn’t just good for our team—it directly benefits the people we care for. A happy, valued team provides better support, and that makes a huge difference to our clients’ quality of life.
What our certification means moving forward
Becoming a certified social enterprise cements our place as a business that leads with heart. It means we’re officially recognised for:
Reinvesting profits back into our mission, not just shareholders,
Prioritising social impact alongside business success,
Creating flexible, inclusive jobs that help people thrive, and
Delivering essential care services to people who need them most.
It also puts us in a stronger position to inspire other businesses across the Northern Rivers. We want to show that you can run a sustainable, successful business while keeping community impact front and centre.
A message from our CEO, Jade
“When clients choose Sistability, they’re not just hiring a local business—they’re backing a bigger mission. Every service we provide supports our work to create meaningful jobs and help people in need. That’s why our clients and our community will always be at the heart of everything we do.”
Jade also points out how commercial clients play a crucial role in our impact:
“When businesses engage us for commercial cleaning or other services, they’re directly enabling us to support high-needs NDIS clients. It’s a powerful way for the whole community to come together and make a real difference.”
Looking ahead
We’re proud of how far we’ve come, but certification is only the beginning. Our goal is to keep growing Sistability in a way that creates even more opportunities—more jobs, more support, and more impact across the Northern Rivers.
If you’re a client, staff member, or community partner, you’re already part of this journey. Every time you recommend us, book a service, or collaborate with our team, you’re contributing to something bigger than all of us.
We believe care work is essential. We believe everyone deserves dignity, respect, and a safe home. And we believe business can and should be a force for good.
