Helping Locals Navigate Aged Care Changes at Palm Lake Ballina
Last week, the Sistability team attended the Palm Lake Ballina Aged Care Information Session & Expo, a valuable community event focused on helping older Australians understand the Support at Home Program.
As aged care continues to evolve, events like this play an important role in making sure people feel informed, prepared, and supported through the changes. For many attendees, it was a chance to ask questions, gain clarity, and connect directly with local providers in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

A Community Eager to Learn
Held at the Oasis Club Cinema, the session saw a strong turnout of local residents, all keen to better understand what the future of aged care might look like for them or their loved ones.
There was a real sense of engagement throughout the morning. People weren’t just there to listen—they were there to understand. Many attendees were navigating aged care for the first time, while others were already receiving services but feeling unsure about how upcoming changes might affect them.
What stood out most was the willingness of people to ask questions and share their concerns. It reinforced just how important it is to have accessible, face-to-face opportunities where information can be explained in a clear and practical way.
Making Sense of the Support at Home Program
A key focus of the session was the introduction of the Support at Home program, which is set to reshape how in-home aged care services are delivered across Australia.
While the reform is designed to simplify the system and improve access to services, it can feel complex at first glance. The presentations helped break things down into a more understandable format, highlighting how support will be structured across everyday living, personal independence, and clinical care.
For many attendees, this was the first time they had heard a clear explanation of how these changes might impact their day-to-day lives. Being able to hear directly from providers—and then follow up with questions—made a noticeable difference in how confident people felt leaving the session.
Meaningful Conversations with Local Providers
Following the presentations, attendees were invited to visit display stands and speak one-on-one with local providers, including Integrated Living, Baptist Care, Crowley Care, and Sistability.
This part of the event created space for more personal conversations, and it’s where we saw the biggest impact.
We spoke with individuals who were unsure where to begin with My Aged Care, as well as families trying to make sense of existing home care packages. Others simply wanted reassurance that they were on the right track or to explore what additional support might be available to them.
These conversations are at the heart of what we do. Often, people don’t need complicated answers—they just need someone to sit down, listen, and explain things in a way that makes sense.

The Role We Play in Everyday Lives
Events like this are also a reminder that aged care isn’t just about systems and funding—it’s about people.
At Sistability, our domestic care specialists are often the only consistent visitors some clients receive. Over time, that regular presence builds trust and familiarity, allowing our team to notice when something isn’t quite right—whether that’s a change in someone’s health, their home environment, or their overall wellbeing.
It’s a responsibility we take seriously, and it’s one of the reasons we’re so passionate about being involved in community events like this. They give us the opportunity to connect early, build relationships, and ensure people know there’s someone local they can turn to.
Why Events Like This Matter
Navigating aged care can feel overwhelming, especially when changes are introduced. Without the right support, it’s easy for people to feel unsure about their options or hesitant to take the next step.
That’s why community-based information sessions are so valuable. They bring together trusted providers, create space for open conversations, and help people feel less alone in the process.
For us, being part of these events is about more than sharing information—it’s about building confidence, reducing uncertainty, and making sure people feel empowered to make decisions about their care.
