Connecting with Ballina's Seniors: Our Team at the Ballina Retirement Living & Senior Lifestyle Expo
Earlier this month, our team had the pleasure of attending the Ballina Retirement Living & Senior Lifestyle Expo, held at the beautiful Ballina Jockey Club on Racecourse Road. It was a wonderful morning filled with genuine conversations, warm connections, and the chance to help local seniors and their families understand the support available to them.
Our Aged Care Manager Jenn and CEO Jade were on the ground from 10am, ready to chat with the Ballina community about navigating the aged care system and how our services can make life at home easier, more comfortable, and more independent.
A Day for the Ballina Community
The expo was designed exclusively for over-55s and seniors, bringing together a broad mix of service providers and small businesses under one roof, saving attendees countless hours of research. With free entry and everything in one place, it offered a simple way for older people and their families to compare services and discover what's available as they plan the next stage of life.
The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, with tea and coffee flowing, lucky door prizes keeping spirits high, and it was clear that the Ballina community was hungry for practical, honest information about aged care. That's exactly what Jenn and Jade were there to provide.
What We Talked About
Understanding the Aged Care System
For many seniors and their families, the aged care system can feel overwhelming. One of the most common questions we heard on the day was simply: "Where do I even start?"
The answer is My Aged Care, the Australian Government's central entry point for aged care services. Here's a simple overview of how it works:
Register with My Aged Care: Call 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au to register. You'll need to provide some basic personal and health information.
Assessment: A trained assessor will visit you at home to understand your needs and determine what level of support you're eligible for. This is free.
Receive your approval: Based on the assessment, you may be approved for a Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or a Support at Home package.
Choose your provider: Once approved, you choose a provider you trust to manage and deliver your services. That's where we come in.
Our team can walk you through every step of this process, so you're never doing it alone.
Managing Your Home Support Program
If you already have a Support at Home (SaH) package we can fully manage this for you, handling the coordination and administration so that your funding works as hard as possible for you.
As your provider, we take care of:
Coordinating all your approved services
Managing your budget transparently
Scheduling and communicating with service providers
Reviewing your plan regularly to make sure it still meets your needs
Ensuring you get the maximum value from your package
Our goal is simple: to help you stay living at home, on your terms, for as long as possible.
Services We Can Deliver at Home
Beyond coordination, we can also provide services directly in your home. Whether you need a little help around the house or more regular support, we offer:
Cleaning: Regular home cleaning to keep your space comfortable and safe
Gardening: Maintaining your garden so you can continue to enjoy it without the strain
Personal care and support: Assistance with daily living activities, delivered with dignity and respect
Already with Another Provider? We Can Help Too
A question that came up more than once was: "I'm already with a provider, but I'm not really happy. Can I switch?"
The answer is absolutely yes. You have the right to change providers at any time, and the process is simpler than many people think. If your current provider isn't giving you the level of service, communication, or care you deserve, our team can help you transition smoothly, with minimal disruption to your services.
And if you're happy with your current provider but they don't offer everything you need, there may be options for us to supplement your care without you having to switch at all. Every situation is different, and we're happy to have an honest conversation about what makes the most sense for you.
A Big Thank You to the Ballina Community
Jenn and Jade both came away from the day inspired by the warmth and openness of the Ballina seniors they met. The conversations were real, the questions were thoughtful, and the community spirit was evident throughout.
Aged care can feel like a daunting topic, but it doesn't have to be. Whether you're planning ahead, just starting your journey, or looking for better support right now, we're here to help make it easier.
