Understanding hoarding and squalor

Understanding the situation

Hoarding and squalor are rarely about mess. Behind a hoarded or neglected home is usually a person dealing with something deeper — grief, loss, trauma, a change in health, or not knowing where to start.

They aren't the same thing, either: hoarding is about accumulation and difficulty letting go; squalor is about a home becoming hard to keep clean and cared for. We support people living with both — and we start by understanding the person.

How it works

Care first, always.

1

A private, judgement-free conversation

We listen first, in your words.

2

Assessment and a transparent quote

Clear scope, no surprises.

3

Work at a pace that feels safe

Room by room, staged to prevent overwhelm.

4

Ongoing check-ins and support

So progress holds.

We're trauma-informed, and we work alongside your existing supports — not around them.

Our managed clear-out process

When a home needs a full clear-out — often through DCJ or a social housing referral — we manage the whole job end-to-end:

For larger jobs
1

Clear-out crew first

We remove items from the home, typically through skip bins we arrange on behalf of the client or referrer.

2

Cleaning crews follow

Once cleared, our cleaning teams restore the property.

3

Completion report at handover

Referrers receive a report with key job details, recommended next steps, and before/after documentation for their records — shared privately, with consent.

4

Realistic timeframes

Larger jobs run over several days, scaled to the size of the home and the volume to be removed.

A referral partner you can rely on

For providers & referrs
Tenancy sustainment. Helping prevent eviction and escalation.
Clear communication & reporting. Progress updates and documentation that support your records and duty of care.
Reliable, insured & screened. A local, trained, worker-screened team.
We work alongside your team. Health, housing, council and coordinators — as part of a shared plan.

Real outcomes

Respectful results in complex situations — documentation kept private.

Common questions

good to know
Will you judge me or my family?

Never. We're judgement-free, and dignity always comes first.

Do you take before-and-after photos?

We protect your privacy — any documentation is shared only with your referrer or kept for records with consent, and never published publicly.

Can a family member or coordinator arrange this?

Yes — families, coordinators and services can all get in touch on someone's behalf.

Is it covered by funding?

We work with Support at Home, NDIS, DVA and self-funded arrangements.

What about rubbish and waste?

We arrange skip bins and safe disposal as part of the job.
