What We Heard at local Seniors Expos: Your Most Common Questions
9 September 2026

Over the past year, our team has spent time at seniors expos across Ballina, Lismore, and Palm Lakes, talking with people who are just starting to think about aged care support, some for themselves, many on behalf of a parent.

One thing stood out at every event: the same handful of questions came up again and again. So we thought it was worth answering them properly, in one place

What Our Clients Say: Why the Little Things Matter Most
4 September 2026

Every client comes to Sistability for a different reason. Some are managing an NDIS plan for the first time. Some are helping a parent stay independent at home. Some just need one less thing to worry about in a busy week.

But when we look back through the feedback we've received, a few things come up again and again, not the big, sweeping stuff, but the small details that end up mattering most.

Deep Cleaning : Setting the Foundation for Ongoing Support
1 September 2026

Before a support worker can help with daily routines, before personal care can begin, before any ongoing service can really do its job, the home itself often needs some attention first. A cluttered or unclean environment isn't just unpleasant, it can genuinely get in the way of good care.

This is why, so often, a deep clean isn't just tidying up. It's what makes everything else possible.

Clearing the Way Home: Sarah's Story
31 August 2026

Sarah is an NDIS participant who had been living in community housing in the Lismore area. When her safety and wellbeing required her to be urgently relocated, the property she left behind did not stay empty for long.

Squatters moved in. What followed was the kind of damage that is difficult to describe without seeing it firsthand. The residence was left in a state of severe hoarding and squalor, with biohazard contamination throughout. Sarah's belongings, including clothing, personal items, and irreplaceable family mementoes, were buried beneath the debris left behind by people who had no regard for the space or the person it belonged to.

How Staying at Home Longer Supports Better Health Outcomes
27 August 2026

For most older Australians, home is not just a place. It is a lifetime of memories, a sense of independence, and a connection to the community and the people they love. It is where they feel most like themselves.

It is no surprise, then, that when asked where they would prefer to receive care as they age, the overwhelming majority of older Australians say the same thing: at home.

Meet Jenn: Sistability's Care Manager
24 August 2026

Jenn Robertson has been part of the Sistability team from day one, and in five years, she has become the person that clients, families and colleagues turn to when it matters most.

As Sistability's Care Manager, Jenn brings a background in administration, sales and events to a role that demands all of it. She is organised, personable and knows how to get things done. But more than that, she has become one of the most important people in the organisation, not because of her title, but because of the way she shows up, every single day, for the people who depend on her and for the colleagues who work alongside her.

The Questions You Should Be Asking Your Aged Care Provider
20 August 2026

Choosing an aged care provider is one of the most important decisions a family makes. Yet most people go into it with very little information about what to look for or what questions to ask.

The aged care sector is not short of providers. What it is short of is providers who are genuinely transparent, consistently reliable, and whose service quality actually matches what they promise. Asking the right questions upfront can save families a significant amount of stress later.

Spring Cleaning: Why Now Is the Right Time to Reset
17 August 2026

There is something about the shift from winter to spring that makes people want to clear things out. The light changes, the air feels different, and suddenly the state of the house becomes more visible.

In the Northern Rivers, spring arrives early and brings its own particular character. The humidity builds, the garden races ahead, and what might have been manageable through July can look quite different by September. For many households, August is the sweet spot, warm enough to open everything up, but not yet into the heat and storm season that makes big cleaning jobs more demanding.

What Families Need to Know About Aged Care in the Northern Rivers
13 August 2026

Navigating the aged care system is challenging anywhere in Australia. In a regional area like the Northern Rivers, there are additional layers of complexity that families often do not anticipate until they are already in the middle of trying to sort things out.

This is a practical overview of what families need to know about aged care in our region, from the realities of wait times to what local support actually looks like.

What Is an ACAT Assessment and What Should You Expect?
6 August 2026

If you have started looking into aged care support for yourself or a family member, you have probably come across the term ACAT assessment. For many families, it is one of the first steps in accessing government funded aged care and one of the least understood.

Here is a plain English guide to what an ACAT assessment is, what happens during one, and what comes next.

The Surprising Role Gardening Plays in Aged Care Support
28 July 2026

Ask most people what aged care support looks like and they will mention meals, personal care, medication help, maybe cleaning. Gardening rarely comes up. It sits at the bottom of the list, treated as optional extras rather than something that genuinely matters.

However, the more time we spend with our aged care clients, the more we understand what their garden actually means to them.

What Is the DVA Veteran Home Care Program?
24 July 2026

The Veteran Home Care (VHC) program is one of the most practical, accessible supports DVA offers. It is designed specifically to help eligible veterans and war widows with day-to-day tasks at home: the cleaning, the laundry, the garden that keeps getting away from you. The kind of things that pile up quietly until they become a real problem.

If you or someone you care about has served, here is what you need to know.

From Our Founder: Why I Started Sistability and What Still Drives Me Every Day
22 July 2026

Sistability was born in 2018 when my sister Holi and I watched two family members struggle to get the in-home support they needed. The services existed, at least in theory. But finding a provider who was reliable, genuinely caring, and capable of working with someone in a complex situation? That was another thing entirely. We kept hitting walls. We kept being let down. And we kept thinking: this can't be how it works for everyone.

It was. And in many ways, it still is.

Biohazard Cleaning: What It Is andWhen You Need It
15 July 2026

Biohazard cleaning is the safe removal and decontamination of biological matter that poses a risk to human health. This is specialist work that requires personal protective equipment, industry-approved cleaning agents, strict disposal protocols, and a team trained to manage both the physical environment and the human circumstances surrounding it.

It is intense work, and we do not shy away from that. Our team is trained and experienced in managing these environments…

There is a version of Sistability that could look very different to the one that exists today.

It could be bigger. It could operate across more regions. It could take on more clients, more contracts, more work. The demand is there. The opportunity has been there. And there have been moments where the path to rapid growth was genuinely available to us.

We chose not to take it. Here is why.

A Guide for Professionals: How to Refer a Client for Specialised Cleaning
12 July 2026

If you work in disability support, aged care, community housing, or health services, you will have encountered this situation. A client's home has deteriorated to a point where it is no longer safe or liveable. The environment is affecting their health, their dignity, and their ability to function day to day. A regular clean is not going to fix it. What they need is a specialist.

Knowing who to call and what to expect when you do makes a significant difference in how quickly and smoothly a situation can be resolved. This is a practical guide to referring a client to Sistability for specialised cleaning, and what happens from there.

Self-Managed vs Fully Managed Support at Home: Which One Is Right for You?
9 July 2026

Getting approved for a Support at Home package is a relief. But it comes with a decision most families are not expecting: do you manage the package yourself, or hand that responsibility to a provider?

It sounds like a small administrative detail. It is not. How your package is managed affects who delivers your care, how much of your funding reaches you, and how much of your own time and energy goes into keeping it all running.

Here is an honest look at both options.

A Day in the Life: How Ella Helps John Live Well at Home
7 July 2026

Not all support looks the same. For John, it looks like a trip to the shops, a lesson on his new phone, lunch out somewhere nice, and someone who genuinely enjoys his company. Twice a week, that someone is Ella.

Social support is one of the most underappreciated parts of aged care. It is not clinical. It is not complicated. But it matters enormously - because isolation, loss of independence, and the quiet accumulation of tasks that have become too hard are some of the biggest risks to the health and wellbeing of older Australians living alone.

Insurance Cleaning: What It Is and Why More People Are Coming to Us for It

Most people who find Sistability find us through aged care or disability support. They've heard about us through a care coordinator, a GP, a family member, or simply by searching for a cleaner in the Northern Rivers who genuinely understands their situation.

But lately, we've been hearing from a different kind of client. People who have been through an accident, an injury, a storm, a flood, or some other unexpected event, and whose insurance company is covering the cost of cleaning and home support while they get back on their feet.

Not All Cleans Are Created Equal: Understanding the Different Types of Domestic Cleaning and Which One You Need

But domestic cleaning is not a one-size-fits-all service, and understanding the difference between maintenance cleaning, spring cleaning, and specialised cleaning can help you make sure you're getting the right level of support for your situation.
